Part 1: Wayfinding Iconographies
Now this is the fun part. How do I improve the designs, based on my point of view?
The quote, "it's really not that bad, it just needs a
little shaping", applies to the existing Wayfinding Systems as well. Adding
small texts below the big icons would help in clarity too. For example, I wanted to go to Marina
Barrage. Now, if this is your first
time at Gardens By the Bay, you will be greeted with this (Fig. 16). It would
help a lot if
below the icons, it tells you what those icons mean.
In this case, the icons you see here was
the Gardens
By The Bay, followed by Marina Barrage, and the Passenger Service Office, respectively.
Let's get back on the drawing board. Fig. 17 shows the icon sets, now with added labels. Fig. 18 shows the idea, in Wireframe form. In Fig. 19, it shows the comparison of how the current signage is like with the additions of texts. Fig. 20 is an example of how the same proposed idea would be, retrofitted on the older signs.
Part 2: Exit Directories
I have arrived at my station. Where to, next? This is where the Exit Directories come in. The current implementation only has Exit Directories at the Concourse, while the ones at the Platforms only as the 'Way out' icon.
The Exit Directories' design is nice and neat, but the only gripes I had were the Exit Numbers being on the right, and it being jumbled up, as the list of landmarks were arranged alphabetically. So I decided, why not arranged it according to Exit Numbers and alphabetically? Best of both worlds.
There is no need for 'Part 3: Consistencies, as a whole' section. Once we're able to iron out and fine
tune the
new system, it should, be able to be applied consistently.
Head over to the Virtual Prototypes tab, where I'll try to implement the new designs, along with my
fine-tuned proposed design, to the existing signages.
